D I S Landing Challenge delivers innovative learning experiences to spark an early interest in science, technology, engineering, and math.
Learn the theory of flight while learning to fly
Engages students with an exciting aeroplane simulator experience
Landing challenges to achieve clear goals
Stages of the Challenge
The competition will be held in three stages
LEARN
All participants must attend a four-session training in which they will learn the fundamentals of aviation and how it covers all the S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) components required for an aeroplane to fly.
Participants will learn the following during this session:
Principles of flying
Flight Instruments
Flight Controls and Navigation
How to Fly a Cessna 182
QUALIFY
In this stage, a virtual qualifying round will be held in which student pilots must demonstrate their skills to our panel of experts to qualify for the finals. At this stage, student pilots use the D.I.S. Aeroplane simulator and points are awarded based on total flight time as well as accuracy in running through the engine fire checklist and flight pattern.
The challenge will be judged using the checklist below.

WIN
The final Championship will be held live on a simulator set by the organizer at the venue.
This year the landing challenge will test a pilot's ability to take off and do a circuit pattern and land within specific parameters. The challenge consists of a predefined airport, runway, aircraft and weather conditions, and the points given by the judging panel are based on the parameters to become the winner of the challenge.
